Unable to hide their amusement, Beau and Cash chuckled, watching through the window as Griff stormed down the boardwalk. Facing Gabe, their laughter died at their boss’s serious expression.

He motioned toward the chair. “Sit down.” Picking up the telegrams, he held one out to each of them. “Our shooter may or may not be Dugan.”

Cash glanced up from the telegram. “Griff’s convinced it is.”

“Regardless, if you see Dugan, arrest him. There are plenty of charges to send him away for a long time.”

Beau’s brows rose as he read the telegram. “A woman?”

“That’s what the sheriff in Moosejaw says. Makes me wonder about the gang of four who robbed the bank here in Splendor.”

Cash handed his telegram to Beau. “Are you thinking it’s the same gang?”

“They hit us, then Big Pine, and now Moosejaw. I think it’s a fair assumption. My guess is they’ll do their best to free the one in Moosejaw, and either ride west or south.”

Beau set the telegram down. “They wouldn’t be stupid enough to hit us again.”

Gabe stared past his deputies to the increasing storm outside. “Most who make their living as outlaws aren’t all that smart.”

Cash glanced at Beau, then Gabe. “What do you want us to do if they do return, and they’re women?”

“If they fire at you, shoot to kill.”
